Since the early 1980s, the Zoo has been a leader of conservation
efforts on behalf of the Bali Starling. In 1995, the Zoo began to explore
development of one or more habitat conservation projects in Latin America.
These projects would provide technical and limited financial support for
the protection and management of natural areas such as parks or reserves.
Preliminary discussions and site visits have been conducted in the Ecuadorian
Andes.
